Beholding those raven tresses, I became bewitched and enamored; what madness is this strange obsession that has taken hold of me?
Upon seeing those dark black tresses, I became enchanted and infatuated; what madness or strange obsession has taken possession of me?

Reason and senses, patience and peace, all fled in breathless haste; alas, every companion parted from me, leaving me utterly alone.
Reason, senses, patience, and peace all hastily fled from me; alas, all my companions parted from me, and I was left completely alone.

My beloved has still not taken to the pale hue upon my face, though steeped in love for them, I am dyed in color from head to toe.
Friends, my pale countenance has still not gained its glow, yet in their love, I have become completely immersed in color from head to toe.

How could I not grow weary of his friendship and despair, now that my beloved makes strangers his intimates to share?
How could I not grow weary of his friendship, now that my beloved has become familiar and friendly with strangers?

When that cypress-tall beloved rose and left my gathering yesterday, it was as if Doomsday had struck, and the final Reckoning held sway.
Yesterday, as soon as that tall beloved rose and departed from my gathering, it felt as though the Day of Judgment had arrived and the final resurrection was unleashed.

Intoxication clouded the eyes, and sorrow filled the heart; no regret if from burning fervor, the cup and flask were drained.
Intoxication has clouded the eyes and sorrow has filled the heart, so there is no sorrow if the cup and wine-flask have emptied due to the heat.

If saying 'Arise by my command!' they bring the slain lover back to life, then 'Arise by God's leave' was merely the miracle of the Messiah.
If the beloved brings the lover back to life by commanding 'Rise by my permission!', then raising the dead by saying 'Rise by God's leave' was merely the miracle of the Messiah.

What if her beauty won her great renown, O Turab? / In her love, it is I who was disgraced and brought to shame.
O Turab, what does it matter if she gained fame for her beauty? In loving her, it is I who became disgraced and humiliated.
