1
How long will you remain separated from me in this trial,
As long as I live, this heart will remain attached to you.
The Shayar asks how long he will remain separated from me in this test, because as long as I live, my heart will remain attached to you.
2
When has the companionship between us, broken by separation, been so bad?
In the wounds of the heart and the salt of tears, how long will there be any pleasure?
How much has the companionship between us, spoiled by separation, deteriorated? In the wounds of the heart and the salt of tears, how much longer will there be any pleasure?
3
Did you meet me after years, or has this thought remained?
Did you meet me after years, or is this concern that our life will end immediately or will it remain?
4
The absence of me, oh, it is merely a restlessness,
What has come to my lips, now, what will remain?
My absence is just a restlessness, and what has come to my lips, what will remain now?
5
Never be heedless, never, with the stain of the heart,
For when this flame ignites, the whole house will burn.
Oh naive one, never be careless with the stain of the heart, because when this flame ignites, the whole house will burn.
6
Do not chase after that which you will lose upon death, O traveler, in the pursuit of that; you will lose your own head, but you will retain that which is meant for you.
The Shayar says that upon death, do not chase after that which you will lose, O traveler, in the pursuit of it; you will lose your own head, but you will retain that which is meant for you.
7
All my life spent in sorrow for my beloved,
When will this sick love ever come to rest?
My entire life has been spent in sorrow for my beloved; when will this sickly love ever find peace?
8
The promise of seeing you, I will witness in the Day of Judgment; what will remain in this illness of sorrow of yours until then?
I will witness the promise of seeing you on the Day of Judgment; what will remain in your illness of sorrow until then?
9
What is it that has risen, but the scroll of loyalty remains,
In the captivity of life, you 'Mir', will be present.
What has risen, yet the scroll of loyalty remains; you 'Mir', will be present in the captivity of life.
