Ghazal
This ghazal captures the devastating allure and cruelty of the beloved's gaze alongside deep spiritual remorse. It reflects on the pain of earthly passion, mortal frailties, and a soul bowing in humble repentance before the Divine.

What deadly signs were cast by the charmer's coquettish glance; arrows of cruelty flew, and the daggers of doom advanced.
What deadly gestures the beloved's coquettish glance made, unleashing arrows of cruelty and daggers of death.

Bearing the weight of sins upon our neck we went our way; before God, with head bowed low in shame, we went our way.
Carrying the heavy burden of sins upon our neck, we walked before God with our head bowed in deep shame.

The true dervishes feel shame to beg, even of God on high; / If ever their wandering brings them near, they sound their call and pass by.
True dervishes feel shame in begging even from God; if their wandering ever brings them by, they merely raise their call and move on.

With wistful yearning, the lover's corpse called out: 'O idol, where do you wander now, having turned me into dust?'
The dead body of the lover called out in deep yearning, asking the beloved where they were heading after ruining him and reducing him to dust.

Like fish cast out of water, the waves writhed in despair; The bubbles burst into weeping as you bathed and walked away.
When you bathed and walked away, the waves writhed restlessly like fish out of water, and the bubbles burst into tears.

Such was our sojourn in this workshop of the world: like a traveler who stops at an inn by day, only to journey on.
Our stay in this world was just like that of a traveler who stops briefly at an inn during the day and then moves on.

We never trampled underfoot another's tender heart; walking our path, we took such care to spare even an ant.
We never trampled upon anyone's heart, and whenever we walked along our path, we took care to spare even an ant.

Those who attained the heights reached them through humility; they alone have stumbled who walked with heads held high.
Those who attained heights and greatness reached there through humility, while only those who walked with pride and heads held high have stumbled.

'Anis', life is not promised for another breath, pause and stay awhile; where do you go, carrying a flickering lamp against the wind?
O Anis, life cannot be trusted even for a single breath, so pause and stay; where are you going carrying a lamp in the face of the wind?
