Ghazal
Sha.er-e-fitrat Huun Jab Bhi Fikr Farmata Huun Main
In this ghazal, the poet presents himself as a poet of nature whose contemplative soul permeates every speck of the universe. Alongside this profound connection with existence, the verses poignantly capture an overwhelming sense of incompleteness and longing felt in the beloved's absence.

A poet of Nature am I; whenever in contemplation I glide, Becoming a soul, into each minute speck of existence I abide.
I am a poet of nature, and whenever I reflect or contemplate, I turn into a soul and permeate every single particle of existence.
2
Come, my friend, for without you I am so restless and distressed; as though in every single thing, I find something missing.
Come back, my friend, for without you I am so restless and uneasy, as though I feel a void or the lack of something in everything.
3
The more I recount the tale of existence, the more a stranger to existence I become.
The more I repeat the story of life, the more estranged and alienated I become from existence itself.
4
When I transcend all realms of space and the spaceless void,
O wonder of wonders! In my very own place, it is You I find.
When I pass beyond both the realm of space and the spaceless void, to my utter wonder, I find You occupying my very own place.
5
Finding it to be a mirror that reflects your radiant face / Oh, with what immense pride do I dote upon my own heart!
When I find my heart to be a mirror reflecting your face, I take immense pride in it myself.
6
Startled all at once, the farther back I retreat, all the closer to me I find that playful beloved.
Whenever I suddenly panic and draw as far back as I can, I find that playful beloved even closer to me.
7
Ceaseless yearning is my very being, pure restlessness my soul; whatever destination comes my way, I keep passing beyond the goal.
My existence is ceaseless longing and my nature is restlessness; no matter what destination comes, I simply keep moving past it.
8
Alas, the bitter helplessness of forsaking our love— / they try to counsel me, and I try to counsel them.
Alas, what helplessness it is that to give up our love, they try to convince me and I try to convince them.
9
Behold my daring spirit, witness my restless will; / No sooner is the knot untangled, than I entangle it once more.
Look at my courage and observe my nature; whenever a tangled knot gets resolved, I deliberately entangle it once again.
10
What enmity does Beauty bear, what grudge does Love maintain? Stumbling over my very own feet, I am the cause of my own pain.
Beauty holds no enmity and love bears no grudge against me; I am simply stumbling over my own feet.
11
Your gathering, your dazzling splendors—why then this urge to banish me? Look, cruel one, I rise and leave; look, I depart and set you free.
This is your gathering and your splendor, so why was there any need to demand that I leave? Look, O cruel beloved, I am getting up and leaving on my own.
12
How long this concealment of love, this boastful pride of beauty? / Let both worlds take heed and brace themselves, for I am coming to my senses now!
How long will this concealment of love and boastfulness of beauty continue? Let both worlds brace themselves, for I am finally coming to my senses.
13
Why should they take the trouble to reveal radiant glory for my sake? In the rising dust of my own yearning, I hide myself away.
Why should the beloved take the trouble of revealing their radiance for my sake, when I already hide myself away in the dust of my own yearning?
14
The heart is verse and melody incarnate, she all color and perfume; / Oh, what an atmosphere is this, in which I slowly dissolve away!
My heart has become verse and melody incarnate while she is entirely color and fragrance; what an atmosphere this is in which I find myself slowly dissolving.
15
How long must love be restrained, how long this pain of parting borne? Have mercy on me, for after all, I am known as your secret.
How long must I restrain my love, and how long must I endure the pain of separation? Have mercy on me, for after all, I am known as your secret.
16
O, this passion for martyrdom! Toward the slayer's lane I go / Humming a song, dancing in rapture, swaying to and fro.
What a remarkable longing for martyrdom this is that I am heading toward the killer's lane humming, dancing, and swaying with joy.
17
Either that state, where the world of hue and scent was bowed to my command; / Or this plight now, where I am crushed beneath the weight of my own shadow.
There was once a state where the entire world was under my control, and now there is this condition where I am suppressed under the weight of my own shadow.
18
Behold the wondrous irony of this love, just behold— / They inflict cruelty upon me, yet it is I who blush with shame.
Look at this strange marvel of love: the beloved inflicts cruelties upon me, yet it is I who feel shy and ashamed.
19
A single heart amidst a storm of misfortunes, O Jigar; a fragile glass, yet against every stone I clash.
O Jigar, there is just a single heart against a storm of calamities; I am like a piece of glass that keeps colliding with every stone.
