Tamasha-e-dair-o-haram Dekhte Hain

We watch the spectacle of the temple and the shrine; on every pretext, it is You we seek to behold.
We observe the spectacle of the temple and the sanctuary (mosque), but through every pretext, it is ultimately You whom we behold.

Rarely do they turn their gaze towards me now; these are not the eyes my eyes once sought to see.
They rarely look towards us now, and these are no longer the same eyes that we used to gaze upon.
3
What countless cruelties of the world our eyes behold; only we truly know the sorrows that we see.
We behold countless cruelties inflicted by the world; only we truly understand what we are enduring and seeing.
4
Should we ever return from the house of idols, O folk of the Kaaba, we shall come then to pay homage at your feet.
O people of the Kaaba, if we ever return from the temple of idols, we shall come back and behold your feet.
5
To us, the discerning eye reveals the world entire; blind are those who seek it in Jamshed's mystic cup.
Our discerning eye shows us everything; blind are those who rely on Jamshid's mystic cup to see the world.
6
Neither a hint of desire, nor a plea made known—yet upon my face, the eyes of the generous rest.
I have neither made a gesture of desire nor expressed any need, yet the generous benefactors keep looking at my face.
7
At times they break the dagger in their hand; at times they test the dying prey's pulse for breath.
Sometimes they break their own dagger, and at other times they check the pulse of the wounded victim to see if any life remains.
8
Even her glance of feigned neglect is a blessing to treasure; for those who look so rarely truly see beyond measure.
Even their indifferent glance or feigned neglect is a blessing, for those who look rarely actually see a great deal.
9
Why would they care to comprehend the substance of my plea? They merely look upon the title and the style of calligraphy.
They have no concern with understanding the actual content of my letter; they merely observe its title and the style of handwriting.
10
May the heart be spared, whether wicked or good; in thousands, we behold this single breath of life.
May the heart remain safe whether it is good or bad, for amidst thousands, it is this single breath of life we behold.
11
Who is left now to arrive at the gathering? Yet with every passing breath, they gaze in all directions.
Who else is left to arrive in the gathering now? Yet they continuously keep looking around in all directions.
12
Bashfulness stands in the way there, fear holds back on this side; neither do they cast a look, nor do we dare to gaze.
On that side shyness stands in the way, and on this side fear holds back; therefore, neither do they look, nor do we look.
13
Why shouldn't they despise the art of winning hearts, when in every heart it is only grief and sorrow they see?
Why wouldn't they despise winning hearts, when they see only grief and suffering in every heart?
14
What suspicion could have fallen even upon the guard, that now by your side he is so rarely seen?
What suspicion or mistrust has arisen even towards the guard, that we now see him with you so rarely?
15
Is this exaltation any small honour for us, O Dagh, that our eyes are blessed to behold the feet of the King of the Deccan?
O Dagh, is this honor any small thing for us that we get to look upon the feet of the King of Deccan?
