दिल कूँ तुझ बाज बे-क़रारी है

दिल कूँ तुझ बाज बे-क़रारी है
चश्म का काम अश्क-बारी है
Without you, my heart knows only restlessness; shedding endless tears is all my eyes can do.
Without you, my heart suffers constant restlessness, and the only task of my eyes is shedding tears.

शब-ए-फ़ुर्क़त में मोनिस ओ हमदम
बे-क़रारों कूँ आह-ओ-ज़ारी है
In the night of separation, the only true companion and friend to the restless hearts is their weeping and deep sighs.
In the night of separation, the only companion and intimate friend of the restless souls is their sighs and lamentation.

ऐ अज़ीज़ाँ मुझे नहीं बर्दाश्त
संग-दिल का फ़िराक़ भारी है
O dear companions, I can bear this no more; parting from the stone-hearted one is too heavy a burden.
O dear friends, I cannot endure this any longer, for separation from that stone-hearted beloved is too heavy a burden to bear.

फ़ैज़ सूँ तुझ फ़िराक़ के साजन
चश्म-ए-गिर्यां का काम जारी है
By the grace of separation from you, my beloved, / The work of my weeping eyes flows ceaselessly on.
O beloved, by the grace and impact of separation from you, the work of my weeping eyes continues ceaselessly.

फ़ौक़ियत ले गया हूँ बुलबुल सूँ
गरचे मंसब में दो-हज़ारी है
I have won precedence over the nightingale, though in noble rank it commands two thousand.
I have taken precedence over the nightingale, even though it holds the noble rank of a two-thousand commander.

इश्क़-बाज़ों के हक़ में क़ातिल की
हर निगह ख़ंजर ओ कटारी है
For those who gamble in the game of love, every glance of the slayer is a dagger and a blade.
For lovers, every single glance of the beloved (the slayer) is like a dagger and a lethal blade.

आतिश-ए-हिज्र-ए-लाला-रू सूँ 'वली'
दाग़ सीने में यादगारी है
From the blaze of parting with that tulip-faced beloved, O Wali, this scar upon my breast remains as a lasting keepsake.
O Wali, due to the fire of separation from the tulip-faced beloved, this scar on my chest remains as a lasting keepsake.
