1
Entering love, what a wondrous delight I came to see: kin and stranger alike turned intimate to me.
Entering into love, I experienced a wondrous joy in which both kin and stranger appeared to me as familiar friends.
2
Having grasped the subtle mystery of the divine essence, everywhere I looked, I beheld the Beloved's face.
Once I understood the subtle secret of "wherever you turn", I beheld the Beloved's face everywhere.
3
Nay, to speak thus is mere affectation—did we ever truly hear that beloved, or ever really see?
In fact, it is mere affectation to even ask this; did we ever really hear or see that beloved?
4
He is Himself the seer, He Himself the listener; / None other than Him have I ever beheld.
He Himself is the one who sees and He Himself is the one who hears; I have never beheld anyone other than Him.
5
Possessed by a longing to behold Himself, He fashioned and witnessed Himself in every possible guise.
He had a desire to behold Himself, so He fashioned and observed Himself in every possible form.
6
In the guise of the rose, He burst forth in laughter; in the form of the nightingale, I saw Him sing.
I saw Him laughing joyfully in the form of a rose, and singing melodiously in the guise of a nightingale.
7
Becoming both the candle and the moth, I watched myself burn within myself.
I became both the candle and the moth, and watched myself burning within my own self.
8
Somewhere, having raised the cry of 'I am the Truth', he was seen strung up upon the gallows.
Somewhere, after proclaiming 'I am the Truth' (Anal-Haqq), he was seen dragged and hanged upon the gallows.
9
Far beyond all praise and laudation was He, O Niyaz; yet now, in every hymn of praise, it is He alone who is seen.
O Niyaz, He was once far beyond all praise and description, yet now He alone is seen in every praise and creation.
