چادر سے موج کی نہ چھپے چہرہ آب کا
برقع حجاب کا نہ ہو برقع حباب کا
The face of water cannot hide beneath the wave's sheer sheet, nor can the fragile bubble serve as a true veil of concealment.

اپنا ہی کچھ تصرّف اوہام ہے کہ ہم
چہرے پہ حق کے پاتے ہیں پردہ نقاب کا
It is but the sway of our own illusions that we / Find cast upon the face of Truth the shadow of a veil.

آنکھیں مُندی ہوئی ہوں تو پھر دن بھی رات ہے
اس میں قصور کیا ہے بھلا آفتاب کا
If the eyes remain closed, even the day turns into night; what fault is it, after all, of the radiant sun?
If one's eyes are kept closed, then even daytime is like night; what fault can there possibly be of the sun in this?

کس کام کی یہ ہستیِ موہوم کائنات
سیراب کب کرے تجھے دھوکا سراب کا؟
Of what use is this phantom universe, this illusory existence? When has the deception of a mirage ever quenched your thirst?

اپنا حجاب آپ ہے، تو اے میاں نیازؔ
اُٹھنے میں تیرے ہوتا ہے، اُٹھنا حجاب کا
You are your own veil, O master Niyaz; in the lifting of your self lies the lifting of the veil.
O Miyan Niyaz, you yourself are your own veil; the lifting of the veil happens only when you yourself are lifted.
