एहसान ले न हिम्मत-ए-मर्दाना छोड़ कर रस्ता भी चल तू सब्ज़ा-ए-बेगाना छोड़ कर
Accept no favor, casting your manly pride aside; / Walk on your path, yet leave the stranger's greens untrod.

उस पीर-ज़ाल-ए-दहर की हम ठोकरों में हैं जब से गई है हिम्मत-ए-मर्दाना छोड़ कर

तौबा तो की है 'नज़्म' बिना होगी किस तरह क्यूँ-कर जिओगे मशरब-ए-रिंदाना छोड़ कर
You took a vow of abstinence, Nazm, but how will you get by? / Having renounced the drinker's way, how will you live at all?
Nazm, you have repented, but how will you manage without wine? Having given up the carefree ways of a drinker, how will you survive?
