मुस्तूजिब-ए-ज़ुलम-ओ-सितम-ओ-जौर-ओ-जफ़ा हूँ हर-चंद कि जलता हूँ पे सरगर्म-ए-वफ़ा हूँ

आते हैं मुझे ख़ूब से दोनों हुनर-ए-इश्क़ रोने के तईं आँधी हूँ कुढ़ने को बला हूँ

इस गुलशन-ए-दुनिया में शगुफ़्ता न हुआ मैं हूँ ग़ुंचा-ए-अफ़्सुर्दा कि मर्दूद-ए-सबा हूँ

हम-चश्म है हर आबला-ए-पा का मिरा अश्क अज़-बस कि तिरी राह में आँखों से चला हूँ

आया कोई भी तरह मिरे चीन की होगी आज़ुर्दा हूँ जीने से मैं मरने से ख़फ़ा हूँ

दामन न झटक हाथ से मेरे कि सितमगर हूँ ख़ाक-ए-सर-ए-राह कोई दम में हुआ हूँ

दिल ख़्वाह जला अब तो मुझे ऐ शब-ए-हिज्राँ मैं सोख़्ता भी मुंतज़िर-ए-रोज़-ए-जज़ा हूँ
Oh my heart, which is consumed by longing, I am also waiting for the day of recompense.

गो ताक़त-ओ-आराम-ओ-ख़ोर-ओ-ख़्वाब गए सब बारे ये ग़नीमत है कि जीता तो रहा हूँ

इतना ही मुझे इल्म है कुछ मैं हूँ बहर-चीज़ मा'लूम नहीं ख़ूब मुझे भी कि मैं क्या हूँ
This much knowledge I possess, what kind of being I am, Even I do not know, my true nature or what I am.

बेहतर है ग़रज़ ख़ामुशी ही कहने से याराँ मत पूछो कुछ अहवाल कि मर मर के जिया हूँ

तब गर्म-ए-सुख़न कहने लगा हूँ मैं कि इक उम्र जूँ शम्अ' सर-ए-शाम से ता-सुब्ह जला हूँ
I say that this heat of speech is that I have lit a candle From the dusk of evening till the dawn of morning.
The speaker says that this sweet talk (heat of speech) is because he has kept a candle lit from dusk till dawn for a lifetime. (The candle represents continuous effort or effort over a long period).

सीना तो किया फ़ज़्ल-ए-इलाही से सभी चाक है वक़्त-ए-दुआ 'मीर' कि अब दिल को लगा हूँ
