Baat Karni Mujhe Mushkil Kabhi Aisi To Na Thi
बात करनी मुझे मुश्किल कभी ऐसी तो न थी

बात करनी मुझे मुश्किल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
जैसी अब है तिरी महफ़िल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
To speak my heart was never quite so difficult before, / As it is now, your gathering was never thus before.
It was never so difficult for me to speak before, nor was your gathering ever quite like this as it is now.

ले गया छीन के कौन आज तिरा सब्र ओ क़रार
बे-क़रारी तुझे ऐ दिल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
Who has robbed you of your calm and peace today? / O heart, never before were you restless in this way.
Who has snatched away your patience and peace today? O heart, you were never this restless before.

उस की आँखों ने ख़ुदा जाने किया क्या जादू
कि तबीअ'त मिरी माइल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
God knows what enchantment her eyes have cast, for never before was my heart inclined like this.
God knows what magic her eyes have cast, for my heart was never inclined toward anyone like this before.

अक्स-ए-रुख़्सार ने किस के है तुझे चमकाया
ताब तुझ में मह-ए-कामिल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
Whose cheek’s reflection has lent you this wondrous glow? / O full moon, such radiant splendor you never had to show.
Whose cheek's reflection has illuminated you like this? O full moon, you never possessed such brilliance before.

अब की जो राह-ए-मोहब्बत में उठाई तकलीफ़
सख़्त होती हमें मंज़िल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
Such anguish I endured this time upon love's arduous path; the destination never had proved so harsh before.
The suffering endured this time on the path of love was so intense; the destination had never been this difficult for me before.

पा-ए-कूबाँ कोई ज़िंदाँ में नया है मजनूँ
आती आवाज़-ए-सलासिल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
Some new Majnun must be frantically stamping his feet in the prison cell; never before had the clatter of fetters sounded quite like this.
Some new Majnun must have arrived in the prison stamping his feet, for the clanking sound of chains was never like this before.

निगह-ए-यार को अब क्यूँ है तग़ाफ़ुल ऐ दिल
वो तिरे हाल से ग़ाफ़िल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
Why does the beloved's gaze turn away in neglect, O heart? / Never before was it so heedless of your plight.
O heart, why is the beloved's gaze indifferent now? It was never this heedless of your condition before.

चश्म-ए-क़ातिल मिरी दुश्मन थी हमेशा लेकिन
जैसी अब हो गई क़ातिल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
The slayer's eye was ever my sworn enemy, yet never before was it so deadly as it has now become.
The beloved's murderous eyes were always my enemy, but they were never as lethal as they have become now.

क्या सबब तू जो बिगड़ता है 'ज़फ़र' से हर बार
ख़ू तिरी हूर-शमाइल कभी ऐसी तो न थी
What is the reason that you turn on Zafar every time? / O houri-faced beloved, your nature was never such before.
What is the reason that you get annoyed with Zafar every time? O beloved with the nature of a houri, your temperament was never like this before.
