This ghazal explores the profound paradoxes of love and longing, where the pain of separation is embraced more readily than the ease of union. The poet reflects on the beloved's unmatched grace despite their aloofness, presenting suffering as an essential mark of true devotion.

To perish in the grief of parting is no arduous fate; yet even the joy of union does not befit a lover's state.
If one has to die in the grief of separation, it is not difficult; however, even the joy of union does not befit a lover.

A bitter temper is a must to set off beauty's face; the truth is this: no one can match your captivating grace.
A bitter temper is also necessary to accentuate beauty, and the truth is that no one possesses captivating grace quite like you.

No hesitation to give their word, nor refusal to swear an oath; yet not a single promise made appears true to me.
They show no hesitation in giving their word nor any refusal to swear an oath, yet not a single promise made by them appears true to me.

Yesterday from a corner of the tavern arose a cry: the heart holds all within, yet speech has been denied.
Yesterday a voice was coming from a corner of the tavern, saying that everything is in the heart, yet there is no permission to speak.

Who could ever truly pay the debt of loyalty to one in whose eyes cruelty itself is no cause of pain?
Who could ever truly repay the loyalty of someone for whom even cruelty is not a cause of pain or torment?

Let us see which path leads to that abode; with the Kaaba or the temple, we have no concern.
We want to see which path leads there; we have no concern or business with either the Kaaba or the temple.

Those who claim divine radiance never repeats its grace, / Shall soon be convinced once this second opening verse takes its place.
Those who claim that divine manifestation never repeats itself will be convinced right now after hearing this second opening verse.
