ज़ुल्मत-कदे में मेरे शब-ए-ग़म का जोश है

The verses

1. ज़ुल्मत-कदे में मेरे शब-ए-ग़म का जोश है इक शम्अ है दलील-ए-सहर सो ख़मोश है

   Meaning: In my dark abode, the night of sorrow's fervor prevails;The lone lamp, a sign of dawn, is now silent.

2. या सुब्ह-दम जो देखिए आ कर तो बज़्म में ने वो सुरूर ओ सोज़ न जोश-ओ-ख़रोश है

   Meaning: Or if you come to see the assembly at dawn,Neither that joy and passion, nor that fervor and zeal remain.

3. आते हैं ग़ैब से ये मज़ामीं ख़याल में 'ग़ालिब' सरीर-ए-ख़ामा नवा-ए-सरोश है

   Meaning: These themes descend into my thoughts from the unseen realms; 'Ghalib', the scratching of the pen is the voice of an angel.

4. हो कर शहीद इश्क़ में पाए हज़ार जिस्म हर मौज-ए-गर्द-ए-राह मिरे सर को दोश है

   Meaning: Having embraced martyrdom in love, a thousand forms I've found;Each swirl of dust on the path, upon my head is bound.
