बूझत स्याम कौन तू गोरी

The verses

1. बूझत स्याम कौन तू गोरी । कहाँ रहित काकी है बेटी देखी नहीं कहूँ ब्रज खोरी ॥

   Meaning: Inquires dark Shyam, 'Who are you, fair maiden? Where do you reside, whose daughter are you? Never before have I seen you in the lanes of Braj.'

2. काहेको हम ब्रजतन आवति खेलति रहति आपनी पौरी । सुनति रहति श्रवणनि नँद ढोटा करत रहत माखन दधि चोरी ॥

   Meaning: Why would we ever wander into Braj? We stay playing on our own threshold; Yet our ears keep hearing that Nanda's lad goes around stealing butter and curd.

3. तुम्हरो कहा चोरि हम लेहैं खेलन चलौ संग मिलि जोरी । सूरदास प्रभु रसिक सिरोमणि बातन भुरइ राधिका भोरी ॥

   Meaning: "What could I have stolen of yours? Come, let us pair up and play!" Surdas says: The Lord, the crest-jewel of charmers, thus beguiled the innocent Radha with his sweet words.
