The heart yearns for the coquettish airs of the moon-faced beloved, though enchanting indeed is her tender favor.
The heart yearns for the coquetry and teasing airs of the moon-faced beloved, even though their kindness and favor are delightfully enchanting.

How will my beloved ever unite with me? I am lost in bewilderment; playful is she, faithless, and fiercely defiant.
I am bewildered wondering how my beloved will ever meet with me, for they are playful, faithless, and defiant.

Be it your curling tresses or your arched brows / From every side, I am caught in this relentless tug-of-war.
Whether it is your tresses or your eyebrows, I am caught in a relentless struggle and tug-of-war from all sides.

Without you, O bestower of wounds upon my heart and breast, the garden of tulips is but a wilderness of fire.
O giver of wounds to my heart and breast, without you, even a garden of tulips feels like a wilderness of fire.

O Vali, through experience I have come to realize: pure and unalloyed is the flame of passion's sigh.
O Vali, I have learned through experience that the flame of the sigh of passion is completely pure and unadulterated.
