Behold the tear upon the lover's face, and in this mirror, see the hidden mystery.
Look at the tears on the lover's face, and see the hidden secret in this mirror.

Listen first to the restless heart's flame-kindling sigh; only then behold within these words the true meanings of the heart.
First listen to the restless heart's fiery sigh, and only then look for the heart's true meanings within these words.

Right before your radiant presence, that candle dares to boast its grace; / Just behold the oily-tongued insolence of that shameless flame!
That candle dares to boast of its beauty right in your presence; just look at the shameless audacity and smooth-talking of that creature!

Go not to the river to gaze upon the flowing wave; come hither instead, and behold the ceaseless stream of my tears.
Do not go to the river to look at the flowing waves; instead, come and behold the flow of my tears.

The wound of yearning for you that marks Wali's heart / Behold its proof in his utter, trembling helplessness.
Look at the sign of the scar of your longing that marks Wali's heart in his utter weakness and helplessness.
