Ghazal
jisne koi yusuf koi yaqub banaya
This ghazal explores the divine ordinance of love, drawing upon the archetypal bond of Yusuf and Yaqub to depict the predestined connection between the seeker and the beloved. With tender reverence, the poet celebrates romantic devotion not as a mere coincidence, but as a sacred gift bestowed by the Creator.

The One who made one a Joseph and another a Jacob in yearning, has made me the seeker and you the desired.
The Creator who made someone as beautiful as Joseph and another as yearning as Jacob, is the One who made me the lover and you the beloved.

He alone has bestowed upon me this love for you, my dear; the very One who fashioned you as the beloved to revere.
O my dear, may the very One who made you the beloved also grant me your love.

To my eyes, all perfection belongs solely to Him; Who fashioned you fairest among all the fair.
I see all perfection and beauty only in that Creator, who crafted you to be the most beautiful among all the beautiful.

You tell me to endure our parting with patience—did you take this heart of mine to be Job?
You tell me to endure our separation with patience; did you take my heart to be Prophet Job?

I longed to line those tender eyes with kohl's soft trace, / But my playful daring made my love turn shy and hide her face.
I wanted to apply kohl to my delicate beloved, but my playful boldness made my beloved feel shy and veil their face.
