Ghazal
ae dil janaab-e-quds mein tu kab sa hua

O heart, when did you ever reach the court of sacred grace? You are still entangled deep within the worldly maze.
O heart, when have you ever reached the sacred presence of the Divine? You are still deeply entangled in the affairs of the worldly realm.

Where is there room to ponder this world's illusory spell, in eyes where the radiant splendor of Truth has come to dwell?
In eyes where the divine radiance of the absolute Truth dwells, there is no space left to contemplate the illusions of this worldly spell.

Cast out every drop of the craving for rank and fame; / A relentless thief it is, buried deep within the heart.
Expel even a single drop of the desire for status and worldly rank from your heart. It is an insidious thief lodged deep within the heart.

Test the gold of your courage upon love's touchstone and see; that which endures is genuine gold, tried and proven true.
Test the gold of your courage against the touchstone of love; that which proves firm and genuine is pure gold, tried and tested.

Lay desolate the dwelling of your own self, O Niaz; with the presence of the Divine Truth, it shall then forever thrive.
O Niaz, empty and desolate the house of your own existence, so that it may then remain populated and inhabited by the divine existence of the Ultimate Truth.
