Ghazal
Ghusse Se Uth Chale Ho To Daaman Ko Jhaad Kar
This ghazal suggests that if one leaves in a fit of anger, they should brush away the remnants of their actions. The speaker warns that the heart is not a city that can be easily rebuilt, and regret will follow if one ruins this dwelling. It suggests that instead of wandering endlessly in the quest for love, it is better to find peace and settle down. If proximity is impossible, the speaker accepts merely observing the beloved from afar.

If you rise in a fit of anger, I too will tear the veil and depart,
As if shaking off the curtain, I will walk away with you.
If you leave in a fit of anger, I will also tear the veil and depart.

The heart is not a city that can be rebuilt,
Do not regret it, listen, by emptying this settlement.
The heart is not a city that can be rebuilt after being emptied. Do not regret it, listen, by emptying this settlement.

Friend, in this quest for your pleasure, how long must I wander?
Grant some solace, that I may sit down and rest.

If our presence is not accepted, then we are departing now,
For today we have come from afar, to find you.
If our presence is not accepted, then we are departing now; for today we have come from afar, to find you.

Grant the strength of heart, Ghalib, to this weak soul,
To make a mountain visible from a mere straw in an instant.
The couplet asks the poet Ghalib to grant strength to this weak heart, so that it can make a mountain visible from a mere straw in an instant.

Some things from the heart, from the people of passion, will now emerge; / Some piles have been formed by pulling these things out.
Some things from the heart, from the people of passion, will now emerge; some piles have been formed by pulling these things out.

From wrestlers of that art, the boat remains, O Meer,
To many we have defeated by tripping them.
From the wrestlers of that art, the boat still remains, O Meer. We have defeated many by tripping them.
