इब्तिदा से हम ज़ईफ़ ओ ना-तवाँ पैदा हुए उड़ गया जब रंग रुख़ से उस्तुख़्वाँ पैदा हुए
Frail and powerless from our very beginning were we born; the bare bones emerged only when all color from the face was gone.
We were born weak and powerless right from the beginning; only when the color drained completely from our face did our bare bones become visible.

ख़ाकसारी ने दिखाईं रिफ़अ'तों पर रिफ़अतें इस ज़मीं से वाह क्या क्या आसमाँ पैदा हुए
Humility revealed boundless heights upon heights; oh, from this very earth, what splendid skies arose!
Humility has shown heights beyond heights, and it is wonderful what great skies have arisen from this very ground.

इल्म ख़ालिक़ का ख़ज़ाना है मियान-ए-काफ़-ओ-नून एक कुन कहने से ये कौन-ओ-मकाँ पैदा हुए
The Creator's wisdom is a treasure held between the Kāf and Nūn; with a single command of 'Be!', this entire cosmos was born.
The Creator's knowledge is a treasure held between the letters 'Kaf' and 'Nun'; by simply uttering the command 'Kun' (Be!), this entire universe came into being.

ज़ब्त देखो सब की सुन ली और कुछ अपनी कही इस ज़बाँ-दानी पर ऐसे बे-ज़बाँ पैदा हुए
Behold this restraint: we heard everyone out, yet barely spoke our own; despite such eloquence of tongue, how utterly speechless we were born.
Look at our self-restraint: we listened to everyone and barely spoke our own mind; despite such eloquence and mastery of language, we turned out to be completely speechless.

शोर-बख़्ती आई हिस्से में उन्हीं के वा नसीब तल्ख़-कामी के लिए शीरीं-ज़बाँ पैदा हुए
Ill-fortune fell to their share alone—alas, cruel destiny! / For the bitterness of life alone were the sweet-tongued born.
Alas, ill fortune fell only to their share; it seems that those with sweet speech were born solely to endure the bitterness of sorrow.

एहतियात-ए-जिस्म क्या अंजाम को सोचो 'अनीस' ख़ाक होने को ये मुश्त-ए-उस्तुख़्वाँ पैदा हुए
Why pamper this mortal frame? Ponder the end, O Anees; this mere handful of bones was born only to turn to dust.
Anees, why take so much care of this physical body? Ponder your ultimate end, for this handful of bones was created only to turn into dust.
