Ghazal
chehra pe jo tere nazar kar gaya
This ghazal portrays the fatal allure of the beloved's beauty and the intense pain of emotional abandonment. It laments that anyone who gazes upon the beloved loses their very soul, and one from whom the beloved turns away is discarded like a falling tear.

Whoever chanced to cast his gaze upon your face, / Has passed away from life, undone by your grace.
Whoever cast a glance at your face ended up losing his life.
2
The one from whom your eyes turned away, departed on his journey like a falling tear.
The one from whom you averted your eyes departed on his journey just like a tear that drops from an eye.

That sun-faced beauty glanced upon their own radiant face, and turned the desolate dusk of the forlorn into morning's grace.
That sun-faced beloved looked at their own radiant face and transformed the sorrowful dusk of the forlorn into morning.
4
By what means could anyone ever draw it out? The arrow of her lashes has made a home within my chest.
How can anyone possibly draw it out? The arrow of the beloved's eyelashes has struck and made a permanent home inside the chest.

It was the promised farewell, no mere hiccup; as the last breath departed, it broke this fateful news.
It was not merely a hiccup but the promised farewell; departing from life, the last breath gave this news.
6
Whoever came and sat within your street / Could never rise again, my friends—he only left in death.
Friends, whoever came and sat in your street could never rise from there again; he departed only after dying.

Whosoever happened to cast their gaze upon love, left their own eyes forever drenched in tears.
Whosoever's gaze happened to fall upon love ended up soaking their own eyes in tears.
