ख़्वाह कर इंसाफ़ ज़ालिम ख़्वाह कर बेदाद तू

ख़्वाह कर इंसाफ़ ज़ालिम ख़्वाह कर बेदाद तू पर जो फ़रियादी हैं उन की सुन तो ले फ़रियाद तू
Do justice, O tyrant, or inflict cruelty at your will; yet at least hear the plea of those who cry out still.
O tyrant, whether you dispense justice or inflict cruelty, at least listen to the plea of those who cry for help.

दम-ब-दम भरते हैं हम तेरी हवा-ख़्वाही का दम कर न बद-ख़ुओं के कहने से हमें बर्बाद तू
With every passing breath, I pledge true devotion to your grace; do not, swayed by malicious tongues, cast me into ruin.
We continually wish well for you with every single breath; do not ruin us by listening to the words of ill-natured people.

क्या गुनह क्या जुर्म क्या तक़्सीर मेरी क्या ख़ता बन गया जो इस तरह हक़ में मिरे जल्लाद तू
What is my sin, what crime, what fault, what error could it be, that you have turned, in such a way, an executioner to me?
What sin, crime, fault, or mistake of mine caused you to become such an executioner toward me?

क़ैद से तेरी कहाँ जाएँगे हम बे-बाल-ओ-पर क्यूँ क़फ़स में तंग करता है हमें सय्याद तू
Stripped of our wings, where could we flee from your captivity? Why torment us further within this cage, O hunter?
Being without wings, where could we escape from your captivity? O hunter, why do you still torment us inside this cage?

दिल को दिल से राह है तो जिस तरह से हम तुझे याद करते हैं करे यूँ ही हमें भी याद तू
If heart indeed finds way to heart, then just as I remember you, may you in that same tender way keep me in your remembrance too.
If there truly is a connection from heart to heart, then just as I remember you, you too should remember me in the exact same manner.

दिल तिरा फ़ौलाद हो तो आप हो आईना-वार साफ़ यक-बारी सुने मेरी अगर रूदाद तू
Though your heart be forged of steel, like a mirror it would shine, if but once you were to hear this tragic tale of mine.
Even if your heart were made of steel, it would automatically become clear like a mirror if you were to clearly hear my plight just once.

शाद ओ ख़ुर्रम एक आलम को किया उस ने 'ज़फ़र' पर सबब क्या है कि है रंजीदा ओ नाशाद तू
An entire world was filled with joy and delight by the beloved, O Zafar; yet what is the reason that you alone remain sorrowful and sad?
O Zafar, that beloved has brought joy and happiness to the entire world, so what is the reason that you alone remain unhappy and grieving?
