बिठाई जाएँगी पर्दे में बीबियाँ कब तक

मियाँ से बीबी हैं पर्दा है उन को फ़र्ज़ मगर
मियाँ का इल्म ही उट्ठा तो फिर मियाँ कब तक
The wife is bound to veil herself, a solemn duty to sustain; / Yet if awareness of the master fades, how long can the master remain?
A wife exists because of her husband and observance of the veil is obligatory for her; however, if the very awareness or recognition of the husband disappears, how long can the husband's status remain?

तबीअतों का नुमू है हवा-ए-मग़रिब में
ये ग़ैरतें ये हरारत ये गर्मियाँ कब तक
Human minds flourish in the breeze of the West; how long can this honor, this inner warmth, this fiery zeal endure?
Human temperaments are flourishing in the Western breeze; how long can this sense of honor, passion, and inner warmth last?

अवाम बाँध लें दोहर तो थर्ड वानटर में
सेकंड-फ़र्स्ट की हों बंद खिड़कियाँ कब तक
When the common masses bundle up tight in third class against the chill, how long can the first and second class keep their windows shuttered still?

जो मुँह दिखाई की रस्मों पे है मुसिर इबलीस
छुपेंगी हज़रत-ए-हवा की बेटियाँ कब तक
If Satan insists so stubbornly upon the custom of unveiling, / How long shall the daughters of Eve remain concealed?
If Satan is so obstinately insisting on the custom of unveiling the face, how long will the daughters of Eve be able to remain hidden?

जनाब हज़रत-ए-'अकबर' हैं हामी-ए-पर्दा
मगर वो कब तक और उन की रुबाइयाँ कब तक
Venerable Sir Akbar champions the veil, it is true; / But how long will he endure, and how long his verses too?
Respected Akbar is indeed a supporter of the veil, but how long can he endure and how long can his quatrains last?
