No trace of the heart was ever found, though graves were unsealed and sought; Who searches in life alone shall find—let the unaware be taught.
Even after opening and searching through graves, no trace of the heart was ever found. One can only find it while still alive, so inform those who remain unaware.

Each infidel soul yearned for gold, bestowed by fortune's grace, yet worshipping the sacred fire, those pagans spent all their days.
Every infidel self yearned for gold and obtained it through fortune, yet those fire-worshippers spent their entire lives merely worshipping fire.

Believe this: when a man is brought low in body and soul, he stoops to flattering pleas; for such is the nature of dire want, it turns even mighty lions into timid foxes.
Believe that when a man becomes utterly helpless in body and soul, he stoops to flattery; it is the very nature of neediness that it turns even lions into foxes.

Having missed his word, Naji returns—fret not merely for a passing glance; / He clings straight to your neck, O cruel one, for the restless know no patience.
Naji missed his promise and has returned, so do not fret merely for a brief glance. O cruel beloved, he rushes straight to embrace your neck, for where can the impatient have any patience?
