Oh 'Mir', wipe your tears with your handkerchief; how long will you continue to string these pearls?

This beautiful couplet is a poignant reflection on the burden of sorrow. Mir Taqi Mir is telling the listener—or perhaps himself—to stop constantly collecting and displaying grief. The tears are compared to pearls, which are beautiful, but the act of perpetually stringing them together is exhausting.
