There is a wonderfully tender irony at play in this couplet that anyone who has ever longed desperately for someone will recognize. The poet spent lifetimes weeping and praying for the beloved to arrive, and against all odds, that heartfelt lament was answered. Yet, the overwhelming magic of finally meeting has dissolved the lover completely into pure self-forgetfulness—the prayer was granted, but the self that prayed has now vanished in the beloved's presence.
