बहुत सही ग़म-ए-गीती शराब कम क्या है

बहुत सही ग़म-ए-गीती शराब कम क्या है
ग़ुलाम-ए-साक़ी-ए-कौसर हूँ मुझ को ग़म क्या है
Granted, the world is rife with grief, but is there any lack of wine? / I serve the Cupbearer of Kausar—what sorrow could be mine?
Even if the world is full of sorrows, wine is not in short supply. I am a servant of the Cupbearer of Kausar, so what sorrow can possibly touch me?

तुम्हारी तर्ज़-ओ-रविश जानते हैं हम क्या है
रक़ीब पर है अगर लुत्फ़ तो सितम क्या है
We know full well your manners and your ways; if this be grace upon the rival, what then is cruelty?
We know your habits and ways very well; if what you show to the rival is kindness, then what does cruelty even look like?

सुख़न में ख़ामा-ए-ग़ालिब की आतिश-अफ़्शानी
यक़ीं है हम को भी लेकिन अब उस में दम क्या है
That Ghalib's pen scatters fire in verse, we too believe; yet what breath remains in it now?
We also believe that Ghalib's pen used to scatter fire in poetry, but what life or strength is left in it now?

कटे तो शब कहें काटे तो साँप कहलावे
कोई बताओ कि वो ज़ुल्फ़-ए-ख़म-ब-ख़म क्या है
If spent, it is called the night; if it stings, a serpent's snare—will someone tell me what it is, that coiled and twisting hair?
If it is spent, it is called night, and if it bites, it is called a snake; will someone please tell me what that coiled and twisting hair truly is?

लिखा करे कोई अहकाम-ए-ताला-ए-मौलूद
किसे ख़बर है कि वाँ जुम्बिश-ए-क़लम क्या है
Let them chart the decrees of the newborn's rising star; who knows how the Pen moves in that realm afar?
Let anyone write the horoscope and decrees of destiny for a newborn, but who truly knows how the pen of fate moves in that divine realm?

न हश्र-ओ-नश्र का क़ाएल न केश ओ मिल्लत का
ख़ुदा के वास्ते ऐसे की फिर क़सम क्या है
Believing neither in the Day of Reckoning nor in creed or faith—for God's sake, tell me, what worth does the oath of such a one hold?
What value or reliability can the oath of a person hold who believes neither in the Day of Judgment nor in any religion or creed?

वो दाद-ओ-दीद गराँ-माया शर्त है हमदम
वगर्ना मेहर-ए-सुलेमान-ओ-जाम-ए-जम क्या है
That priceless discernment and vision is the essential condition, my friend; otherwise, what worth has Solomon's seal or Jamshid's wondrous cup?
My friend, priceless discernment and true appreciation are the essential conditions; otherwise, even Solomon's seal or Jamshid's wondrous cup hold no real worth.
