Terey bajh dewani hoi
Tokaan kardey luk sbhoi
Jeker yaar karey diljoi
Taan faryaad pukaar de haan
— Bulleh Shah
Meaning
My heart has become mad for you; everyone is mocking me. Whoever loves you, their heart is joyful; so raise a cry of lamentation.
Explanation
In this deeply evocative couplet, Bulleh Shah speaks of the intoxicating power of divine love. He describes how his devotion has driven him to a state of beautiful madness, making him the subject of everyone’s gaze. The Shayar suggests that when the beloved’s grace stirs the heart into restlessness, the only honest response is to raise one's voice and call out one's yearning. It is a beautiful surrender to the divine intoxication.
