बहुत काम लेने थे जिस दिल से हम को
वो सर्फ़-ए-तमन्ना हुआ चाहता है
— Altaf Hussain Hali
Meaning
We had so much to accomplish through this heart, but now it is on the verge of being entirely consumed by longing.
Explanation
Imagine planning great accomplishments in life, only to find that your heart—the driving engine of your ambitions—has been completely consumed by a single yearning. The poet reflects with a gentle, wistful sigh on how love derails all practical plans. The very heart that was meant to conquer the world is now losing itself entirely in the quiet ache of longing.
