जब लग नाता जगत का , तब लग भक्ति न होय। नाता तोड़े हरि भजे , भगत कहावें सोय॥ 74॥

The verses

1. जब लग नाता जगत का , तब लग भक्ति न होय। नाता तोड़े हरि भजे , भगत कहावें सोय॥

   Meaning: When the world's attachments still exist, devotion does not arise. When Hari breaks those attachments, only the devotee remembers Him.

2. जल ज्यों प्यारा माहरी , लोभी प्यारा दाम। माता प्यारा बारका , भगति प्यारा नाम॥

   Meaning: Like the beloved flowing water, or the dear price of gold; like the beloved mother's lap, or the dear name of devotion.

3. दिल का मरहम ना मिला , जो मिला सो गर्जी। कह कबीर आसमान फटा , क्योंकर सीवे दर्जी॥

   Meaning: I could not find the balm for my heart, only found a roar. Kabir said, 'If the sky tore, why did the tailor sew it?'

4. बानी से पह्चानिये , साम चोर की घात। अन्दर की करनी से सब , निकले मुँह कई बात॥

   Meaning: By words, the thief's scheme is revealed, but from inner actions, many truths emerge.

5. जब लगि भगति सकाम है , तब लग निष्फल सेव। कह कबीर वह क्यों मिले , निष्कामी तज देव॥

   Meaning: When devotion is for worldly gain, it is fruitless service. Kabir says, why ask for it, abandon devotion (to the gods).
