This human birth is rare, a body not repeatedly gained.

The verses

Meaning: This human birth is rare, a body not repeatedly gained. Like leaves falling from a tree, it does not return again.

Meaning: The rich shall sleep soundly, the king and the beggar alike. One climbs upon a throne, and one is bound with chains.

Meaning: What should be done tomorrow, do it today; what should be done today, do it now. For in a moment, there will be a great deluge, when then will you do it?

Meaning: Asking for death is the same as asking for wisdom; begging for any favor. Dying is better than begging, this is the teaching of the true Guru.

Meaning: Where there is ego, there is calamity; where there is doubt, there is disease. Kabir says, why should these four ailments—the disease of ego, doubt, and impatience—be eradicated?
