Kabir Sangrah 51-60
The verses
वस्तु है ग्राहक नहीं , वस्तु सागर अनमोल। बिना करम का मानव , फिरैं डांवाडोल॥
Meaning: The article is not the customer; the article is priceless ocean. A human without deeds wanders restlessly.
कली खोटा जग आंधरा , शब्द न माने कोय। चाहे कहँ सत आइना , जो जग बैरी होय॥
Meaning: The world is a false, dark flower; no one listens to words. Even if the true mirror is shown, the world remains an enemy.
कामी , क्रोधी , लालची , इनसे भक्ति न होय। भक्ति करे कोइ सूरमा , जाति वरन कुल खोय॥
Meaning: Lustful, angry, greedy—by these, devotion is not achieved. Devotion is practiced by the valiant, losing caste, lineage, and clan.
जागन में सोवन करे , साधन में लौ लाय। सूरत डोर लागी रहे , तार टूट नाहिं जाय॥
Meaning: In the wakeful state, keep your efforts alight; keep your face directed, lest the string should break.
साधु ऐसा चहिए , जैसा सूप सुभाय। सार-सार को गहि रहे , थोथ देइ उड़ाय॥
Meaning: A sage who is like a winnowing basket, who grasps the essence, and makes the trivial fly away.
