The arrow that emerged from the bow, emerged from the heart, the beloved's life. (Meaning: Just as an arrow leaves the bow, this [pain/emotion] originated from the heart, the beloved's life.)

Mir Taqi Mir, master of melancholy, uses this couplet to describe the source of true pain. The bow represents controlled power, but the heart (jigar) is the uncontrollable, living source. When the arrow leaves the bow, it is a physical action. But when the arrow leaves the heart, it is a raw, involuntary outpouring of emotion—a wound that comes from the soul itself.
