Itni Guzri Jo Tere Hijr Men So Us Ke Sabab Sabr Marhum Ajab — Mir Taqi Mir
इतनी गुज़री जो तिरे हिज्र में सो उस के सबब
सब्र मरहूम अजब मोनिस-ए-तन्हाई था
— Mir Taqi Mir
Meaning
So much time passed in your separation that, because of it, my patience was worn out, and loneliness became my strange companion.
Explanation
This profound couplet captures the crushing weight of prolonged separation. Mir Taqi Mir says that the yearning for the beloved's absence was so intense, that even the virtue of patience—which is supposed to sustain us—has passed away. It becomes just another strange, silent companion in the deep, unending sea of loneliness. It's a heartbreaking portrayal of emotional exhaustion.
