मुझ सोज़ बा'द-ए-मर्ग से आगाह कौन है
This ghazal meditates on the mystery of life and death, questioning who can know the experiences after death. It speaks of a traveler's restlessness, the search for a true guide, and the omnipresence of the divine.

शम-ए-मज़ार मीर ब-जुज़ आह कौन है
Who is aware of the sorrow after death,
O lamp of the grave, who is aware of the sigh?

बेकस हूँ मुज़्तरिब हूँ मुसाफ़िर हूँ बे-वतन
दूरी-ए-राह बन मिरे हमराह कौन है
I am helpless, I am restless, I am a stranger without a homeland; who is the companion on this path of distance?

लबरेज़ जिस के हुस्न से मस्जिद है और दैर
ऐसा बुतों के बीच वो अल्लाह कौन है
Whose beauty has made the mosque and the monastery,
Whose beauty has made the mosque and the monastery, among these idols, who is that God? (Meaning: Whose beauty is so great that it has inspired both a mosque and a monastery; such beauty renders the concept of God irrelevant.)

रखियो क़दम सँभल के कि तू जानता नहीं
मानिंद-ए-नक़्श-ए-पा ये सर-ए-राह कौन है
Walk carefully, for you do not know,
Whose imprint this path's head is, who is.

ऐसा असीर ख़स्ता-जिगर मैं सुना नहीं
हर आह 'मीर' जिस की है जाँ-काह कौन है
I have never heard such a wretched heart like mine, O Mir; whose life's plight, who can comprehend?
The poet says that he has never heard of such a sick and frail heart whose suffering's depth anyone could understand.
