Even the cup of wine of love, O Mir, was so intoxicating, and on the lips of the lover, there was always an ecstatic chant.

This profound couplet, attributed to Mir Taqi Mir, speaks of the intoxicating nature of divine love (Ishq). The poet suggests that the intoxication of love is like a wonderful, potent wine (taafeh). And just as a lover's lips are always ready with a joyous, ecstatic chant (nara-e-mastana), the memory of love itself is equally overwhelming.
