ज़बाँ से हमारी है सय्याद ख़ुश
हमें अब उमीद-ए-रिहाई नहीं
— Mir Taqi Mir
Meaning
From our tongue comes the Sayyad's joy, but we have no more hope of freedom.
Explanation
This profound couplet speaks of utter resignation. The poet suggests that his tongue is content to speak whatever the circumstances demand, or whatever the Beloved desires. The second line is the core of the emotion: 'We no longer have the hope of release.' It is a beautiful, heartbreaking acceptance of fate. It signifies that the struggle is over, and the speaker has surrendered to the reality, no matter how painful that reality may be. It is the voice of someone who has seen too much struggle to fight anymore.
