अब तो जाते हैं बुत-कदे से 'मीर'
फिर मिलेंगे अगर ख़ुदा लाया
— Mir Taqi Mir
Meaning
Now we are departing from this world of idols, 'Mir'; if God wills, we shall meet again.
Explanation
This couplet is a profound declaration of spiritual detachment. 'But-kade' refers to the idols or false deities of the world—anything that distracts us from God. Mir Taqi Mir is saying that he is leaving the worship of these worldly attachments... that he is moving away from superficialities. The second line is the core promise: he will only meet his beloved (or God) if fate, or God himself, allows it. It speaks of absolute surrender and reliance on divine will.
