Ghazal
मैं और बज़्म-ए-मय से यूँ तिश्ना-काम आऊँ
This renowned ghazal by Mirza Ghalib masterfully blends wit, subtle irony, and poignant melancholy to reflect on unfulfilled desires and the agony of love. Using the classic motifs of the tavern and the cupbearer (Saqi), the poet laments his unslaked thirst and ponders the inseparable bond of suffering between the heart and soul.

A single arrow has pierced both my heart and liver together; gone are the days when the heart and liver were separate from each other.

O Ghalib, I will acknowledge your skill only if you accomplish something in helplessness; back when the thread had no knot at all, your fingernail used to claim it could untie knots.
