Ghazal
घर में था क्या कि तिरा ग़म उसे ग़ारत करता
This ghazal captures profound melancholy, desolation, and a touch of philosophical irony. Ghalib reflects on having lost everything to the sorrow of love, noting that in his empty house there was nothing of worldly worth to be ruined, except for an unfulfilled desire to build a life.

वो जो रखते थे हम इक हसरत-ए-तामीर सो है
What was there in my house for your grief to lay to waste? Only that yearning to build anew, which still endures.
There was nothing in my house for your sorrow to destroy; only that longing to build a home, which I once harbored, still remains.
