वाँ इरादा आज उस क़ातिल के दिल में और है

वाँ इरादा आज उस क़ातिल के दिल में और है
और यहाँ कुछ आरज़ू बिस्मिल के दिल में और है
There, today, another design stirs within the slayer's heart; and here, another yearning aches within the victim's heart.
Today, the killer harbors a completely different intention over there, while here, the wounded victim carries an entirely different desire in their heart.

वस्ल की ठहरावे ज़ालिम तो किसी सूरत से आज
वर्ना ठहरी कुछ तिरे माइल के दिल में और है
Settle somehow on our union today, O cruel one; / Else, something quite different is resolved in your lover's heart.
O cruel beloved, settle on our meeting in some way today, otherwise your lover has resolved something else entirely in his heart.

है हिलाल ओ बद्र में इक नूर पर जो रौशनी
दिल में नाक़िस के है वो कामिल के दिल में और है
Though crescent and full moon share one same light in kind, / What glows within the flawed soul is transformed in the perfected mind.
Although the crescent moon and the full moon share the same light, the illumination in the heart of an imperfect person is vastly different from that in the heart of a perfected person.

पहले तो मिलता है दिलदारी से क्या क्या दिलरुबा
बाँधता मंसूबे फिर वो मिल के दिल में और है
At first with such fond tenderness the charmer comes to meet, yet having met, what different schemes within that heart compete!
At first, the beloved meets with great affection and kindness, but after meeting, they secretly devise entirely different intentions in their heart.

है मुझे बाद-अज़-सवाल-ए-बोसा ख़्वाहिश वस्ल की
ये तमन्ना एक इस साइल के दिल में और है
After begging for a kiss, it is union that I crave; there stirs yet another desire in this beggar's heart.
After asking for a kiss, I now desire full union; this beggar harbors yet another wish in his heart.

गो वो महफ़िल में न बोला पा गए चितवन से हम
आज कुछ उस रौनक़-ए-महफ़िल के दिल में और है
Though she uttered not a word in the gathering, her glance made it known: / Today, in the heart of the assembly's life, a different thought has grown.
Even though they did not speak in the gathering, we understood from their glance that today something entirely different is in the heart of the life of the assembly.

यूँ तो है वो ही दिल-ए-आलम के दिल में ऐ 'ज़फ़र'
उस का आलम मर्द-ए-साहब दिल के दिल में और है
Though He abides in the heart of all creation, O Zafar; within the heart of the enlightened soul, His realm is truly something apart.
O Zafar, although God resides in the heart of the entire creation, His presence and manifestation inside the heart of an enlightened soul is entirely unique.
