हवा में फिरते हो क्या हिर्स और हवा के लिए
This ghazal counsels against human greed and arrogance, urging humility and detachment from worldly pursuits. It also poignantly reflects on the profound self-sacrifice and vulnerability inherent in true love.

हवा में फिरते हो क्या हिर्स और हवा के लिए
ग़ुरूर छोड़ दो ऐ ग़ाफ़िलो ख़ुदा के लिए
Why wander in the winds for worldly greed and vain desire? Forsake this pride, O heedless souls, for God's own sake!
Why do you wander around chasing greed and worldly desires? O heedless ones, abandon your pride for the sake of God.

गिरा दिया है हमें किस ने चाह-ए-उल्फ़त में
हम आप डूबे किसी अपने आश्ना के लिए
Who has cast us down into this deep well of love? We drowned of our own accord, for the sake of our beloved.
Who has thrown us into the well of love? We drowned ourselves of our own free will for the sake of someone dear to us.

जहाँ में चाहिए ऐवान ओ क़स्र शाहों को
ये एक गुम्बद-ए-गर्दूं है बस गदा के लिए
Kings in this world may crave their palaces and stately halls; / This single dome of the revolving sky suffices for the beggar.
Kings in this world require grand halls and palaces, whereas for a beggar, this single dome of the sky is quite sufficient.

वो आईना है कि जिस को है हाजत-ए-सीमाब
इक इज़्तिराब है काफ़ी दिल-ए-सफ़ा के लिए
That is an ordinary mirror which stands in need of quicksilver; for a heart pure and clear, a single tremor of restlessness is enough.
It is an ordinary mirror that needs quicksilver (mercury) to reflect, whereas for a pure heart, a single tremor of restlessness is enough.

तपिश से दिल का हो क्या जाने सीने में क्या हाल
जो तेरे तीर का रौज़न न हो हवा के लिए
Who knows what plight the heart would suffer from the searing heat within my chest, had your piercing arrow not carved a vent to let the cooling breeze in?
Who knows what state the heart would be in from the burning heat inside the chest, if the opening made by your arrow were not there for air to pass through.

तबीब-ए-इश्क़ की दुक्काँ में ढूँडते फिरते
ये दर्दमंद-ए-मोहब्बत तिरी दवा के लिए
They wander searching in the apothecary of love's physician; these sufferers of love, seeking a remedy for thee.
These sufferers of love are wandering around searching the shop of love's physician for a remedy for you.

जो हाथ आए 'ज़फ़र' ख़ाक-पा-ए-'फ़ख़रूद्दीन'
तो मैं रखूँ उसे आँखों के तूतिया के लिए
If the dust beneath Fakhruddin’s feet ever comes to my hands, O Zafar, I shall treasure it as sacred collyrium for my eyes.
O Zafar, if the dust beneath the feet of Fakhruddin comes into my hands, I will preserve it to use as collyrium for my eyes.
