I have been tormented, mistaken for a sea. The moonlight has greatly scorched me.

This beautiful couplet speaks to the pain of misinterpretation. The poet feels tormented, not by a literal sea, but by something vast and misleadingly overwhelming. Then, he says the moonlight burned him—the moonlight, which is supposed to be beautiful, became a source of pain. Amrut Ghayal tells us that sometimes, the things we perceive as powerful or beautiful are actually the greatest sources of our suffering.
