अपनी गिरह से कुछ न मुझे आप दीजिए अख़बार में तो नाम मिरा छाप दीजिए
Give me nothing from your pocket, spare your purse, I plead; just print my name in the newspaper, that is all I need.
You do not need to give me anything from your own pocket; simply print my name in the newspaper.

देखो जिसे वो पाइनियर ऑफ़िस में है डटा बहर-ए-ख़ुदा मुझे भी कहीं छाप दीजिए
Whomever you look upon is camped at the Pioneer’s door; for the love of God, print me somewhere too, I implore!
Whomever you see is camped firmly at the Pioneer office, pleading that for God's sake, publish me somewhere as well.

चश्म-ए-जहाँ से हालत-ए-असली छुपी नहीं अख़बार में जो चाहिए वो छाप दीजिए
From the world's watchful eye the true state remains unconcealed; print whatever you please across the newspaper's page.
The true reality is not hidden from the eyes of the world, so print whatever you wish in the newspapers.

दा'वा बहुत बड़ा है रियाज़ी में आप को तूल-ए-शब-ए-फ़िराक़ को तो नाप दीजिए
You boast of such great mastery in the science of numbers; measure, then, the endless length of separation's night.
You claim to have great mastery in mathematics, so go ahead and measure the length of the night of separation.

सुनते नहीं हैं शैख़ नई रौशनी की बात इंजन की उन के कान में अब भाप दीजिए
The Sheikh pays no heed to the talk of the new light; / Now blow the engine's steam straight into his ear.
The Sheikh does not listen to the ideas of the modern era; therefore, the steam of an engine should now be blown into his ear.

इस बुत के दर पे ग़ैर से 'अकबर' ने कह दिया ज़र ही मैं देने लाया हूँ जान आप दीजिए
At this idol's doorstep, Akbar told his rival then: 'I have only brought gold to offer, you may give your life instead.'
Akbar told his rival at the beloved's threshold that he has only brought wealth to offer, so the rival may sacrifice his life instead.
