इस नज़ाकत पर ये शमशीर-ए-जफ़ा आप से क्यूँकर सँभाली जाएगी
With grace so fragile, this heavy sword of cruelty— / How will it ever be wielded by hands so delicate?
Given such delicate fragility, how will you ever be able to manage and wield this sword of cruelty?

क्या ग़म-ए-दुनिया का डर मुझ रिंद को और इक बोतल चढ़ा ली जाएगी
What fear of worldly sorrow can daunt a reveler like me? One more bottle shall simply be drained away.
What fear of worldly sorrows can a drunkard like me have? One more bottle of wine will simply be drunk away.

शैख़ की दावत में मय का काम क्या एहतियातन कुछ मँगा ली जाएगी
What place has wine at the banquet of the Sheikh? / Still, just as a precaution, a little shall be sent for.
What need is there for wine at the Sheikh's feast? Even so, a little will be ordered just as a precaution.

याद-ए-अबरू में है 'अकबर' महव यूँ कब तिरी ये कज-ख़याली जाएगी
So lost is Akbar in the memory of an arched brow; when will this crooked obsession of yours ever depart?
Akbar is so deeply lost in the thought of his beloved's curved eyebrows; one wonders when this crooked thinking of his will ever leave him.
