harees
Meaning
Greedy, covetous, intensely eager, or deeply longing.
Detailed Meaning
In classical poetry, 'harees' denotes someone driven by insatiable yearning or intense greed. In this couplet, the poet portrays himself as craving the agony of the beloved's torment ('harees-e-lazzat-e-aazaar'). Seeing that the lover takes pleasure in suffering, the beloved paradoxically stops tormenting him in order to withhold even that joy.
