Word Meaning
हमारियाँ
hamāriyāñ
Meaning
Ours (archaic feminine plural of 'our', modifying feminine plural nouns).
Detailed Meaning
An archaic or early Urdu (Rekhta) feminine plural inflection of the first-person plural possessive pronoun 'hamari'. In this couplet by Mir Taqi Mir, it agrees grammatically with the feminine plural noun 'baatein' (conversations, poetic words). It conveys an affectionate, melancholic longing for the speaker's verses to be remembered after he is gone.
Etymology
Derived from Middle Indo-Aryan and Sanskrit 'asmākam' (of us), inflected with the classical Braj/Hindustani feminine plural suffix '-iyāñ'.
Usage
A characteristic feature of eighteenth-century Rekhta poetry (such as the works of Mir and Sauda), where feminine possessive pronouns took the '-iyāñ' ending to agree in number with feminine plural nouns.
Examples
Muddat rahengi yaad ye baatein hamariyan (These words of ours shall be remembered for ages).
Ye hasratein hamariyan dil hi mein rah gayin (These longings of ours remained buried in the heart).
