हैगा
haiga
Meaning
Is, exists; an archaic or dialectal form of the auxiliary verb 'hai'.
Detailed Meaning
'Haiga' is an archaic and dialectal present-tense form of the verb 'hona' (to be), equivalent to standard 'hai'. In this couplet, it serves simply as the copula linking the beloved Sayyid boy with the title 'Imam Banka' (the dashing leader). While frequent in early Rekhta and Dakhani verse, it later fell out of favor in formal modern Urdu.
Etymology
Hindustani / Prakrit (derived from the root of 'hona' with the dialectal emphatic suffix '-ga').
Usage
Common in early Rekhta poetry (such as Mir and his contemporaries) for both meter and vernacular idiom, but later treated as obsolete in standard literary Urdu.
