सही
sahī
Meaning
So be it; let it be; well and good; granted.
Detailed Meaning
In classical Urdu poetry, 'sahī' (often used after negative verbs as 'na... na sahī') acts as a concessive particle signifying resignation, allowance, or indifferent acceptance. In this couplet, it expresses cynical dismissal: if the beloved did not approach to slay the speaker, let it be, casting doubt on whether the beloved even had an arrow to shoot.
Etymology
From Hindustani / Prakrit roots related to the verb 'सहना' (to bear/endure), derived from Sanskrit 'सहते'.
Usage
Commonly paired with negative particles in classical ghazal to convey stoic acceptance or ironic nonchalance towards the beloved's indifference.
Examples
If not union, then separation be it.
