Literally meaning one who holds their head high or pulls away their head, it denotes someone or something rebellious, stubborn, and unruly. In Urdu ghazals, it frequently describes the beloved's rebellious curls or locks (kākul) that refuse to be restrained. In this couplet, it describes the recalcitrant tress of hair that cannot be subdued even by the dark shade of facial down.
